BACARDI MTV VMAS PITCH DECK
The Ask: We landed Bacardi as our presenting sponsor for the 2023 VMAs. Bacardi is a very involved and detail-oriented client, meticulously involved in every step of the creative process. In order to properly communicate and sell through the granular details/aspects of our execution, I was tasked with overseeing the design of the deck, ensuring the high-production concept our creative team came up, with was conveyed with as much detail and quality as possible.
The Process: When visualizing a concept driven deck, it is crucial to lean into all aspects that can be visually connective. This concept was based around the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, and more acutely, the journey through it’s eras. I used a constantly spinning record with Bacardi labels, as a contextual visual metaphor for the passing of time, and leaned into IP cutouts that were extruding from polaroid type treatments. The ongoing needs of this high-budget production caused the evolution and usage of this deck to take on a life of its own and warranted design ideation and execution throughout.

Results: This deck became the literal playbook for this project. Far exceeding the normal usage for a deck like this, it became the instrument of sell-through for getting both the client and the talent on board with the nuances of the shoot, previously never been done before. Including style frames, storyboards and moodboards, the deck was printed out and hung up all over the enormous venue, acting as a literal guide for all 500 actors, staff, and production on what each shot was going to feel like and look like.
